- Maturity and Quality: 40 points
- Uniformity: 20 points
- Purity (no weeds or contaminants): 20 points
- Colour and Aroma: 20 points

D1. Barley
- 1 Quart – Ziplock or Jar per entry
- Clean, uniform, fully mature grain
D2. Oats
- 1 Quart – Ziplock or Jar per entry
- Clean, plump, consistent sample
D3. Wheat
- 1 Quart – Ziplock or Jar per entry
- Uniform, well-cleaned sample
D4. Grass Hay
- 12″ slice from a square bale, or equivalent from round bale
- Bright green, leafy, and aromatic
- Well-cured, clean, and leaf-heavy
