LAND & ENVIRONMENT

Current Situation

Farming North of 60 brings a unique set of challenges shaped by geography, climate, and limited land availability.  Access to secure, arable farmland remains a significant issue for Yukon Produces. With a small amount of cultivable land, protecting agricultural ground is more important than ever. To support long-term food production in the Yukon, producers need land policies that are accessible, consistent, and designed with northern realities in mind.

At the same time, Yukon farmers are facing growing environmental pressures — including shifting permafrost, unpredictable weather, wildfires, and limited water access. These realities call for a thoughtful, regionally informed approach to land management and environmental policy that supports both producers and sustainable ecosystems.
